Kirkaldy's
This fundraising booklet was produced to help the survival of a quirky historic workshop under real threat of closing down. The workshop houses a gigantic hydraulic Universal Testing machine which was commissioned by David Kirkaldy in 1874. The machine became an institution in the structural engineering world and in its day had an international reputation for accuracy. It would put metal beams (among other materials) under stress to test their strength and flexibility to inform the building of many iconic structures. Kirkaldy’s moto - Facts not opinions - was world known. Today the Kirkaldy Museum Trust continues to show small groups of visitors round once a month. However, the survival of the workshop and the machine is under threat due to the expiry of its lease. This fundraising booklet aims to help raise funds to renew the lease and update the musuem. It explains the history of the machine, and also highlights other ways in which the venue has been used such as hosting contemporary art events. – Designed whilst at Hudson Fuggle
